The outside investigators were neither independent nor impartial and should have recused themselves. If this is simply a perception problem then the Museum has nothing to fear from an open and complete examination of the facts. Further, this one-sided hearing held behind closed doors with what appears to be a foregone conclusion raises new and disturbing questions about the peer review process of the Museum's publications. This difficult situation casts a chill over the community. The ethical questions raised and the apparent ambiguity of professional expectations for collaboration and priority are serious issues for the future of this field. This must be addressed and resolved openly.
